Kennesaw, Ga. - The Boston College baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the season to finish off a successful weekend, downing St. Peter's 7-2 in Kennesaw, Ga.
Lefthander Nate Jeanes was strong in 8.2 innings of work, allowing five hits and one earned run, and received plenty of offensive support in the process.
Johnny Ayers manufactured a run in the top of the second inning by earning a walk and advancing to third on two wild pitches. Ayers then darted home on an errant pickoff attempt to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Ryne Reynoso padded the lead in the fourth by hitting a sacrifice fly that scored Eric Campbell.
The Eagles were quiet until the seventh when they awoke for four more runs. Campbell's RBI single scored Jett Ruiz and Ryan Hutchinson and gave the Eagles a commanding 6-0 lead.
St. Peter's attempted a late comeback in the ninth, but Jeff Schomaker helped to end the rally by firing a perfect relay throw toward the plate and cutting down a potential run. Dave Preziosi relieved Jeanes to get the final out of the game.
The Eagles travel to Florida for the annual spring trip next week, meeting the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers on March 4.
