Lacrosse Tops Fairfield In Season Opener, 11-10

Fairfield, Conn. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team edged Fairfield University, 11-10, in its season opener in Fairfield, Conn. on Wednesday. Senior midfielder Carley St. Lucia tallied four points and six different players scored goals to lead the Eagles to their first win of the season.
Fairfield (1-1) got on the board first just 42 seconds into the match. The Eagles evened the score at 1:18 when St. Lucia notched her first goal of the day. The two teams exchanged goals until they found themselves locked at four. Senior Susie Beaznell and sophomore Katherine Wagoner scored goals during the stretch. Junior Elizabeth Kadison tallied a goal at 12:19 off a pass from classmate Lizette Blohm to tie the game at four.
BC's attack took over with five unanswered goals. Seniors Courtney Legath and Susie Breaznell found the back of the net for the Eagles. Sophomore Libby Schuville and St. Lucia both connected on free position shots to give BC an 8-4 advantage.
The Stags added one more goal to make the score, 8-5, heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles extended their lead with two straight goals from Legath and St. Lucia. Legath finished the game three points on two goals and an assist.
Fairfield tallied a goal 9:06 to make the score 10-6.
At 10:11 Breaznell found Schuville who netted her second goal of the game. Breaznell finished the game with three points on two goals and an assist.
The Stags closed out the game with four straight goals, but it was not enough to beat the Eagles.
Jackie Yovankin and St. Lucia led the team in groundballs with four apiece in the game.
In goal, Tara McKennett made 10 saves for BC, while Kristin Genovese stopped 10 shots for the Stags.
BC (1-0) will travel to Piscataway, N.J. to face Rutgers on Friday, March 11. The game starts at 5 p.m.
