Cambridge, Mass. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team defeated Brown University, 15-8, tonight at MIT. BC freshman Shauna Culhane led the Eagles to their second win of the season with a game-high five goals.
In the opening half, the Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the first eight minutes. Lizette Blohm put BC (2-1) on the board with a free position goal. Susie Breaznell evened the score at two at 16:20. Elizabeth Kadison scored the third straight goal for the Eagles to give them a goal advantage.
The Brown Bears (1-3) scored two consecutive goals to bring the score to 4-3 with three minutes remaining in the half.
Kadison and Culhane gave the Eagles a 5-4 lead heading into the break with two goals in the final minute of the frame.
After one half of play, BC goalie Tara McKennett made seven saves, while Brown goalie Melissa King stopped five shots.
In the second half, Carley St. Lucia extended BC's lead with her first goal of the game. Brown responded with two quick goals.
With 22 minutes remaining in the second half, Courtney Zwirko saw her first career action in goal for the Eagles.
The Eagles took over at 20:47 with six unanswered goals. Culhane and Jackie Yovankin notched two goals each during the run, while Breaznell and St. Lucia also added scores.
In the final eight minutes, Culhane scored two more goals and Breaznell added another. Culhane finished the game with six points on five goals and an assist.
In goal, McKennett and Zwirko combined for nines saves, while Brown's King made seven saves.
BC will continue play on Saturday at Babson College. The Eagles will host Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. in Babson Park, Mass.
