The Boston College baseball team managed just five hits on Friday and lost to Wagner, 4-2, in Boca Raton, Fla. The loss snaps the Eagles' five-game winning streak.
After an RBI single by Jason Delaney in the top of the first, the Eagles (5-5) held a 1-0 advantage until their half of the third. With one out, first baseman Dave Preziosi singled and catcher Shawn McGill was hit by a pitch. Preziosi and McGill advanced to second and third on a double steal, and Drew Locke hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Preziosi and make the score 2-0.
BC starter Nick Asselin (0-2) struggled with his control in the bottom of the third, walking four Wagner batters. With the bases loaded, sophomore third baseman Jared Mcguire made a throwing error that allowed two runs and tied the score at two.
Asselin allowed two hits, walked one batter and hit another by a pitch to allow two more Wagner runs in the fourth, making the score 4-2.
The Eagle offense, which had scored 50 runs in its previous five games, had just two hits after the third inning on Friday. Shortstop Marco Albano was hitless for the first time this season. Delaney's single extends his hitting streak to nine games.
Preziosi and Albano combined to throw three shutout innings in relief of Asselin.
