Senior Joe Martinez lasted 8.2 innings and didn't allow a run until the ninth inning as Boston College avenged Friday's loss to Wagner, defeating the Seahawks on Saturday, 4-2, in Boca Raton, Fla.
Martinez struck out a career-high 12 batters and scattered seven hits. The righthander leads BC with 24 strikeouts in his three starts this season. He is 2-1 on the year.
The Eagles (7-5) got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After senior Dave Preziosi led off with a single and stole second, classmate Drew Locke followed with a walk. Third baseman Jared Mcguire knocked in the first Eagle run of the day with a single that scored Preziosi and senior Jason Delaney scored Locke with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Eagles scored another run in the fourth and McGuire had an RBI double in the eighth to give BC a 4-0 lead.
After Martinez allowed three hits in the ninth inning, shortstop Marco Albano came in to finish the game. The righthander registered his first career save as he struck out Wagner's last batter.
Preziosi was 3-for-4 in the win and scored two BC runs. The Eagles have won seven of eight in Florida and will play their final game in the Sunshine State tomorrow at 2 p.m. when they take on Lafayette.
