Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College women's ice hockey team beat the University of Connecticut Huskies for the second time this season as they took the game by a score of 6-1. This is a season-high for the Eagles in goals scored in a game. The Eagles now stand at 5-4-3 overall and 4-1-1 in Hockey East action. Freshman Becky Zavisza led all scorers with four points which is a career-high.
Boston College struck first as Deborah Spillane scored 10 minutes into the first period. Spillane's even-strength goal came off passes by freshman Meghan Fardelmann and Zavisza.
The Eagles continued their attack on the Huskies goaltender for the rest of the period. Senior Jill McInnis netted the Eagle's second goal at 8:43 in the first for her first point of the season. Zavisza's first goal of the game of the game came with five minutes left in the first when the freshman forward took passes from sophomores Rachel Wedig and Colleen Harris to put the Eagles up, 3-0.
Zavisza tallied her second goal of the game in the second period on a power play. Freshman Maggie Taverna notched her first assist of the game as Spillane also assisted on the play. Taverna has scored at least one point in the last five games of the season for the Eagles. The freshman defenseman is fourth on the team now with 10 points.
Spillane increased the Eagles lead to a commanding 5-0 with seven minutes left in the second period. Taverna tallied her second assist on the night and Fardelmann notched her second assist of the game as well.
UConn got on the board in the beginning of the third period as junior Katherine Van Deveire netting the Huskies' first goal on a power-play. Boston College would score one last time when Fardelmann notched her third point of the game off a Zavisza and Harris assist.
