Softball Drops Regular-Season Finale

AMHERST, Mass. -- After a two and a half hour rain delay, the Boston College softball team dropped an 8-1 decision to Massachusetts Sunday afternoon at the UMass Softball Complex in the final regular-season game of the season. With the loss, the Eagles fell to 33-23 on the season (11-9 BIG EAST).
Boston College scored an unearned run in the top of the first off pitcher Kelli Arnold, but it was all Massachusetts after that. In the third inning, the Minutewomen scored three runs to take the lead for good. The Minutewomen added a solo run in the fifth on a RBI single and then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth. The highlight of the inning was a two-RBI double. They also scored runs in the frame on a wild pitch and an error.
Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, Calif.) started for the Eagles and gave up three runs on four hits and two walks in 2.2 innings. She was relieved by Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.).
The Eagles will be the fourth seed in the 2004 BIG EAST Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y. May 13-15. They will face the top-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
