Senior Eric Wright (Southboro, Mass.) contributed three hits, including one home run, as the Boston College baseball team fell to visiting Georgetown, 11-6, Sunday, May 2 in the final contest of a three-game series at the Heights. The Eagles dropped to 21-21 and 8-7 in the BIG EAST while the Hoyas improved to 24-29 and 7-16.
Georgetown's Warren Sizemore kept BC swingers in check, allowing two runs on six hits through 8.0 innings. He fanned three and walked three to pick up his fifth win of the season. Steady offense also bolstered Georgetown's cause as four batters stroked a pair of hits and catcher Andrew Cleary slammed three hits while right fielder Billy Quinn drove in three runs.
As they had in yesterday's games, GU scored first with a four-run, four-hit outburst in the second inning that was aided by two Eagle miscues. The Hoyas ran off to the 5-2 advantage in the bottom of the sixth inning before tacking on four more runs in the top of the seventh off Eagle reliever Jake Marsello (Lynn, Mass.).
Down 11-2, Josh DiScipio (Schenectady, N.Y.) triggered a one-out Eagle rally in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Thomas Braun with his single to the shortstop, followed by Dave Preziosi's (Oradell, N.J.) single through the left side. Each runner moved up on a wild pitch, and DiScipio scored on Marco Albano's (Arlington, Mass.) groundout to the pitcher while Preziosi crossed the plate on Eric Wright's third hit of the game, a single to right field. Junior Drew Locke (Weymouth, Mass.) then sent a two-run, home run to left field before Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass.) struck out looking to end the game.
Senior Matt O'Donnell (Marlboro, Mass.) took the loss for BC; he fell to 3-4, allowing five runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.
BC hosts Brown, Monday, May 3. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
