Boston College baseball players Jason Delaney (Hanson, Mass.) and Chris Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) earned BIG EAST Co-player and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively, in an announcement made by the BIG EAST, Monday, May 10. These awards marked the third and fourth time an Eagle has been recognized by the conference.
Delaney hit a game-winning, two-out grand slam in the top of the 12th inning to lift BC over West Virginia on Sunday. In the final two games of the WVU series, the junior drove in nine runs and powered a double and two home runs. He hit .417 (5-for-12) with three runs and nine RBI in the overall Mountaineer series and made seven putouts and no errors. For the week, he went 8-for-19 (.421) with five runs and 11 RBI.
Chris Lambert delivered a two-hit, complete-game shutout performance in a 1-0 victory over West Virginia. He retired 15 of his first 18 batters, while increasing his all-time BC strikeout record to 257 with nine against the Mountaineers. The junior finished the seven-inning game, allowing two hits and four walks in 27 batters faced for his first one-run victory of the season in four tries.
The Eagles have won 22 of their last 31 games en route to a record of 25-22. Their BIG EAST count of 11-7 currently places them fifth in the conference. For the sixth straight season, Head Coach Pete Hughes has led the Eagles to a 20-victory season.
