Junior Jason Delaney (Hanson, Mass.) had six hits and senior Garrett Greer (Peabody, Mass.) drove in six runs to the lead the Boston College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Georgetown, Saturday, May 1 in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles won 10-4 and 13-3 decisions over the visiting Hoyas to lift their record above .500 (21-20) for the first time all season while raising their BIG EAST count to 8-6 while GU dropped to 23-29 and 6-16.
Boston College's all-time career strikeout leader (248), Chris Lambert (Manchester, N.H.), paced BC to the victory in game one. He allowed four runs on six hits with nine strikeouts in his complete-game, 7.0 inning outing.
The Eagles answered from a 2-0 hole after one-half inning with four runs of their own on five hits, thanks to Ryan Leahy's (Salem, Mass.) sacrifice fly and Jason Delaney's three-run home run. BC scored what would be the game-winning run in the third on senior Josh DiScipio's (Schenectady, N.Y.) RBI-double, one of three hits in the game for the Eagle second baseman. Delaney also contributed three hits toward BC's 12-hit effort.
Six GU batters each posted a hit while the no. 3 hitter, Billy Quinn drove in a couple runs. Eduardo Pena took the loss, allowing eight runs and nine hits.
For the second-straight game, GU drew first blood, penning a tally in the second and third innings for the 2-0 lead. BC climbed back as Greer slammed a two-out, bases-clearing double to send home three runs in the bottom of the third. A four-run offensive outburst by the Eagles in their next at bat sealed the deal, lifting BC to the 7-2 advantage. In that stanza, Ryan Morgan drove in two runs and Greer's single brought in a run while Jason Delaney powered an RBI-double. Delaney has registered an RBI and a double in each of the last four games in addition to two home runs.
Junior pitcher Kevin Shepard (Andover, Mass.) tied Tim Smith '90 on BC's all-time career wins list with his 17th victory after scattering eight GU hits through 7.0 innings. He gave up three runs and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Billy Quinn and Matthew Johnson each registered a pair of hits for Georgetown with Johnson driving in two runs. Erick Chandler fell to 5-5 after allowing seven runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings.
BC meets Georgetown, Sunday, May 2 at 12 noon.
