Freshman Jared McGuire (Harwich, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with four RBI to lead the Boston College baseball team to the 11-6 victory over Harvard in the first round of the annual Beanpot Tournament, held this year at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton. The Eagles improved to 15-19 and will face Northeastern in the title game, Wednesday, April 21, at 8 p.m. while Harvard dropped to 14-14-1.
McGuire, who made his seventh collegiate start at third base tonight, also scored a pair of runs while driving in a collegiate-high four RBI. The Eagles also received a four-RBI output from shortstop Ryan Leahy (Salem, Mass.), who extended his hitting streak to 15, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and sacrifice fly. Leahy matched his four RBI from the round one of the Beanpot Tournament (April 23) a year ago in BC's 13-7 victory over Northeastern.
Harvard stranded 11 runners to the Eagles' five in a game which included a combined five errors and nine wild pitches.
Freshman Kevin Boggan (Lexington, Mass.) earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs on four hits in 4.1 innings with a pair of strikeouts.
