Charleston, S.C. - The Boston College softball team split a doubleheader with Charleston Southern Wednesday afternoon at CSU Softball Field in Charleston, South Carolina. The Eagles blew a 2-0 lead and dropped the first game to the Buccaneers, 3-2, before winning the second game, 4-0. The Eagles are 10-9 overall.
Boston College took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning behind RBI hits from Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.) and Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.). In the home half of the next two innings, however, Charleston Southern pecked away at the Eagle lead, scoring a single run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a slim 3-2 lead. BC could not tie the game in its last at-bat.
In game two, freshman pitcher Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) did all of the damage, belting a two-run homerun in the second inning and pitching a complete game. Thompson's homer spearheaded a three-run fourth inning for the Eagles, who would add a single run in the top of the seventh for the 4-0 win.
Thompson pitched seven innings, allowing just five hits while striking out six and walking one. Mackey and Kristin Allain (Worcester, Mass.) each drove in a run in the win.
The Eagles will travel to Georgia Southern for doubleheader Saturday afternoon before returning to Chestnut Hill.
