CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Michelle Lawson (Claines, United Kingdom) recorded six second-half saves while Susie Breaznell (Delmar, N.Y.) and Meggie O'Neill (Garden City, N.Y.) scored two goals apiece to lead Boston College to a 7-5 win over Boston University Wednesday night at Alumni Stadium.
Carley St. Lucia (Delmar, N.Y.), Courtney Legath (Moorestown, N.J.) and Elizabeth Kadison (Evanston, Ill.) each tallied one goal to round out the scorers for BC.
The Eagles (5-4, 0-1), who never trailed in the match and held a 2-1 halftime advantage, registered back-to-back goals to open the second half for the 4-1 lead at the 26-minute mark.
Breaznell opened the second-half scoring at 27:22 with a free-position goal. Less than one minute later, O'Neill received a feed from Carter Kahle (Houston, Texas) and beat BU goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (six saves) to build the three-goal advantage.
The Terriers (2-5) answered with consecutive scores from Danica Strutt and Lindsay Lewis to cut the lead to 4-3 with just over 23 minutes left to play. However, Boston College registered goals from St. Lucia, Breaznell and O'Neill, to outscored the visiting Terriers 3-2 in the final 23 minutes of the game. Breaznell's tally at 17:28 stood as the gamewinner.
Lawson faced 22 shots and made nine saves to earn her first win of the season. Both teams recorded 16 ground balls and seven draw controls.
The win ends the Eagles' four-game skid and marks the first victory over the Terriers in the last four tries. BU opened the season with two wins but has now dropped five straight.
Boston College travels to Blacksburg, Va. to play Virginia Tech on Sunday, April 4. The Eagles and Hokies square off at noon.
