CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College softball team split a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader with Dartmouth College at Shea Field. The Eagles dropped the first game, 2-1, and came back to win the second game, 9-1. The Eagles are now 19-12 on the season (1-1 in BIG EAST play).
GAME ONE - Dartmouth 2, Boston College 1
Boston College jumped on the board quickly, pushing across a single run in the first inning. Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, Calif.) led off with a single, Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.) followed with a walk, and both runners advanced on an Elena Ferrero (Van Nuys, Calif.) sacrifice bunt. Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) then drove in Goodchild with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Eagles looked as if they would hold the Big Green, but Dartmouth struck with two runs in the fifth inning for the win. With two outs, Dartmouth strung together three singles that produced two runs.
Thompson was the hard-luck loser in the circle, striking out seven while allowing just three hits (all in the fifth inning). Goodchild was 2-for-4 while Thompson knocked in her team's lone run.
GAME TWO -Boston College 9, Dartmouth 1
Boston College scored three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and four in the sixth to put Dartmouth away in the night cap of the twin bill. The Eagles pounded out 10 hits in the win.
In the third inning, BC collected three runs on three hits. The Eagles added two more in the following inning, belting out two more hits. In the sixth inning, BC belted out four hits for four more runs.
Macchi was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Goodchild went 2-for-4. Thompson collected a pair of RBI while Ferrero, Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.), and Sara Kellner (Sarasota, Fla.) each collected one.
Boston College returns to BIG EAST play this weekend, with road games at Syracuse (Friday) and Notre Dame (Sunday). The Eagles will return to Shea Field on April 8 when they host Holy Cross.
