Syracuse, N.Y. - The Boston College softball team split a doubleheader with Syracuse University Friday afternoon at Syracuse Softball Complex in Syracuse, New York. Game One - Syracuse 5, Boston College 4
In a game that saw four lead changes, the final change came in the bottom of the sixth inning as Syracuse belted a two-run homer to go ahead by the final 5-4 margin. Despite taking an early 1-0 lead and then expanding that lead to 4-2, Boston College could not post a win.
The Eagles manufactured a single run in the first inning with back-to-back-to-back singles from Jenna Macchi (Milford, Mass.), Elena Ferrero (Van Nuys, Calif.), and Erin Mackey (River Forest, Ill.). Mackey's line drive single up the middle plated Macchi for the 1-0 lead.
Two runs on two hits in the second inning gave the hosts a 2-1 lead, but BC would take the lead back in the fourth. A Syracuse error and two BC hits pushed three runs across to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) punched a two-run homer to center field in the rally.
Syracuse would do some heavy hitting of its own in the sixth inning with an RBI double and a two-run homerun to take the final 5-4 lead.
Game Two - Boston College 5, Syracuse 3
The Eagles pushed two runs across in the first inning and held on to the lead this time, topping the hosts 5-3. RBI singles by Ferrero and Elyse Meredith (Basking Ridge, N.J.) plated the two runs that would enable BC to jump ahead and maintain the lead for good.
Despite giving up a single run in the bottom of the first, BC pushed three more runs across in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Syracuse managed to score two more, but BC held on for the win. The Eagles scored three runs on four hits and two Syracuse errors. Ashley Obrest (Elmwood Park, Ill.) and Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, Calif.) collected RBI singles in the scoring rally.
