Rowing Takes Second Place in Both Varsity Eight Events

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston College women's rowing team took second place in both Varsity Eight events against Northeastern and Harvard/Radcliffe on Saturday, March 27. The Eagles' Varsity Four squad finished third in its event.
In the first Varsity Eight race, Radcliffe, the 2003 NCAA Champions, took control of the race early and did not open more than a two-length margin until late in the race. In the fight for second place, Boston College and Northeastern were never more than one second apart for the length of the 2000 meter race. Radcliffe won this event with a time of 6:56.1, while the Eagles finished at 7:07.9 and Northeastern at 7:08.5.
Boston College's second Varsity Eight raced aggressively, pushing out to a length lead over Northeastern in the first 50 meters, never relinquishing the second-best spot. The Eagles finished 17.2 seconds behind Radcliffe in the second Varsity Eight race and crossed the line at 7:34.6, exactly seven seconds ahead of Northeastern.
The Eagles' first Varsity Four finished third, while the second Varsity Four defeated Northeastern while losing to Radcliffe with a time of 8:49.8.
Boston College's second Novice Eight took the Eagles' lone victory of the day, defeating Northeastern and Radcliffe by 21 and 11 seconds, respectively. BC's first Novice Eight held close in the first half of the race with Northeastern and Radcliffe but settled for third place.
The women's rowing team returns to action on Saturday, April 3, to take on the Dartmouth Big Green and Northeastern Huskies in Boston.
