Rowing Opens With Wins In Four Of Five Events

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Boston College women's rowing team kicked off its 2004 spring campaign with four first-place finishes in five events in the Jesuit Invitational at Cooper River on Saturday, March 20.
The Varsity Eight withstood a strong push in the second 500 from St. Joseph's to take home first place at the Jesuit Invite. The Eagles moved into an early lead and held for 1000 meters before pushing out to a nine second win over the St. Joseph's Eight. BC's winning time of 7:00.27 was followed by St. Joseph's at 7:09.46, followed by Georgetown (7:28.72), Holy Cross (7:32.11), and Loyola of Maryland (7:38.12).
BC's Second Varsity Eight took control of its race early and never looked back, posting an 11-second win over St. Joseph's. The Eagles' two entries in the Women's Four event finished second and fourth in a field of six crews. Georgetown topped Boston College by 9.8 seconds to win the event.
Two quick entries in the Novice Eight event finished first and fourth, respectively. The BC first Novice Eight dominated the field and finished a comfortable 14 seconds ahead of St. Joseph's. Georgetown finished third in the event while Loyola of Maryland rounded out the competition, finishing fifth.
The women's rowing team is back in action on Saturday, March 27, against Radcliffe and Northeastern in Boston.
