Conway, S.C. - The Boston College softball team split a doubleheader with Coastal Carolina Tuesday afternoon at CCU Softball Field in Conway, South Carolina. The Eagles topped Coastal, 1-0, in the first game before falling 3-1 in the second. The Eagles are 9-8 overall.
Boston College pushed across the game's lone run in the second inning and played some solid defense to make the run stand for the win in game one. With one out, freshman Ashley Obrest (Elmwood Park, Ill.) singled and stole second base. Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.) knocked her in with a two-out single down the left field line.
Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, Calif.) collected the win on the mound. She struck out seven and allowed three hits in six innings of work. Britney Thompson (Bountiful, Utah) pitched one inning of relief, earning the save.
In game two, Coastal Carolina pushed across three runs in the first inning and held on for the 3-1 win, despite Boston College putting one run on in the sixth inning. A lead-off walk, a two-out single, and a three-run homer accounted for all of the Chanticleer runs. BC manufactured a run off an error and two hits, including an RBI single by Thompson.
The Eagles will remain in South Carolina for the rest of spring break, taking on Charleston Southern (Wednesday) and Georgia Southern (Saturday) this week.
