Baseball Drops Doubleheader to CCSU

The Boston College baseball squad dropped a doubleheader to host Central Connecticut State University, Sunday, March 13. With the 8-7 and 14-7 losses, the Eagles fell to 3-10 while the Blue Devils bettered their mark to 5-3-1.
In the first game, the Blue Devils scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, all with two outs, to come away with the victory. A costly error on the final play of the game gave the Blue Devils a pair of runs and the one-run victory. Central Connecticut had eight hits in the game including two from senior catcher Tim D'Aquila. Designated hitter John Blaze had a home run and a pair of runs batted in the victory, the only two runs off BC starting pitcher Chris Lambert (Manchester, N.H.). Evan Scribner picked up the win on the mound in relief, he pitched one inning and didn't allow a run while striking out one.
Freshman Jared McGuire (Harwich, Mass.) had three hits for the Eagles and a pair of RBI in is second collegiate start, and Joe Martinez (South Orange, N.J.) had a pair of hits and two RBI in the loss. Senior Mike Gauthier (Salem, Mass.) picked up the loss in relief pitching 0.2 and allowing four runs.
In the second game, the Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and two more in the second and took a 7-0 lead before Central Connecticut scored 14 straight runs to earn the 14-7 victory. A nine-run second inning led the way for the Blue Devils, all nine runs came with two outs in the inning. Keith Stegbauer and Rob Hosgood each had three hits; Hosgood had five RBI while Stegbauer added three RBI and two runs scored for the game. Blaze and Brad Muldoon each had a pair of hits and Muldoon added three RBI in the CCSU win.
Freshman pitcher Mark Peterson picked up his first collegiate win for the Blue Devils pitching four innings of relief and allowing just three hits, no runs and recording two strikeouts. He faced just 15 batters in his four innings of work.
The Eagles were led by Drew Locke, Jason Delaney and McGuire who each had two hits in the loss. Delaney added a pair of RBI while Ryan Leahy slammed a two-run home run.
BC travels to Nebraska this weekend for a three-game series with the Huskies, starting March 19. First game is 2 :05 central time on Friday, March 19.
