The Boston College football team is ranked 24th in the Associated Press poll and 25th in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll. It marks the first time the Eagles have cracked the top 25 since the end of the 2001 season, when they were ranked 21st in the ESPN/USA Today poll following their 8-4 season that ended with a 20-16 win over 16th-ranked Georgia in the Music City Bowl.
The Eagles had a week off to savor their come-from-behind 24-23 victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Now they prepare for the home stretch of the season, a four-week slate of Big East games that will determine any postseason possibilities for the team. First up - the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Last year, the entire BC season turned in the second half of the game at Rutgers. In what Coach Tom O'Brien called "the greatest gut-check I've ever been around," the Eagles shrugged off a sluggish first-half performance to hold Rutgers to 131 second-half yards and take a 35-25 win, their ninth in a row and 11th in 12 meetings against the Scarlet Knights. The win made BC bowl-eligible for the fifth straight year.
