After dropping its previous two road games in overtime, Boston College got off the bus in New Haven with fury, defeating Ivy League foe Yale, 3-0, at the Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium.
Led by senior co-captains Guy Melamed and Pat Haggerty, the Boston College (8-3) defense turned in another superb effort, and has not allowed a regulation goal since a September 19 loss to Villanova.
Sophomore goalkeeper Issey Maholo posted his sixth shutout of the season and after tonight's 90 minutes, has now played more than 1000 minutes in goal this season. Maholo, a three-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week in 2004, registered five saves in the win.
After a scoreless first half, the No. 14 Eagles jumped on the board in the 55th minute when freshman Charlie Davies knocked in the rebound of classmate Johann Helgason's shot. It was Davies' sixth goal and fourth game-winning score of the year.
Yale (2-8) had its best opportunity to score in the 82nd minute when Maholo made a sliding kick save on an Alex Munns' shot. The Bulldogs did not threaten again.
The Eagles added an insurance goal on Haggerty's fourth score of the season - a header off a corner kick from sophomore Jarryd Goldberg just two minutes after Maholo's stunning save. BC added an own goal at 86:12.
With tonight's three goals, the Eagles have now scored 16 on the year - two more than they amassed all of last season.
BC will return home Saturday to host BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh at 2 p.m.
