Softball Drops Pair To Rutgers

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Boston College softball team dropped both games of a BIG EAST doubleheader with Rutgers Tuesday afternoon at Shea Field. The Eagles fell to the Scarlet Knights, 4-2 and 5-2. They currently stand at 27-17 overall and 11-4 in the BIG EAST. Rutgers improves to 24-18 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
In the first game, Boston College pushed a single run across in the third inning as Cara Blumfield (West Hills, CA) smacked a solo homerun to tie the game at one. Rutgers added two runs in the sixth inning, but BC took one of them back in the home half of the inning when the team capitalized on two Rutgers fielding errors. The Scarlet Knights added a single run in the seventh for the final 4-2 margin.
Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) took the loss on the mound for BC, falling to 13-5 on the season.
In game two, BC fell victim to three errors as Rutgers pushed across all five of their runs in the fifth inning. The Scarlet Knights belted our four hits and capitalized on two Eagle fielding errors for their five runs. BC claimed two of them back in the bottom of the sixth as Jen Asbury (Livermore, CA) knocked a two-run homerun.
Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, CA) took the loss on the mound. She struck out six in 4.2 innings of work. Ryan pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Boston College will close out the home schedule Wednesday when they face Massachusetts in a single game at 1:00 p.m. It marks senior day for Asbury, Blumfield, Lisa Fischer, and Ryan.
