Softball Takes Pair From Central Connecticut

New Britain, Conn. - The Boston College softball team collected a pair of non-conference road wins over Central Connecticut Tuesday afternoon at University Field in a game postponed from March. The Eagles shut out the Blue Devils 16-0 (five innings) and 9-0 (five innings) to improve to 20-13 overall (7-1 BIG EAST). BC is currently on a six-game win streak and has won 12 of its last 13 games.
In the first game of the day, Boston College scored in each of the five innings. Taking a 5-0 lead after two full innings, the Eagles exploded for eight runs in the top of the third inning to take a commanding lead. The team added three more runs in the final two innings, belting out 16 total hits. Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) and Lisa Fischer (Coopersburg, Pa.) each went 2-for-3 with three RBI on the afternoon.
Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) helped her own cause on the mound. Pitching five innings, she struck out seven and allowed only four hits. At the plate herself, she was 1-for-2 with three RBI. Blumfield, Fischer, and Daly all hit homeruns while BC collected eight extra-base hits.
In the second game, Boston College scored eight runs over the first two innings to sail to victory once more. The team collected 12 hits on the aftrernoon and capitalized on a Blue Devil defensive error for the final 9-0 margin. Blumfield was a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, a homerun, and a triple. Fischer added three RBI on 2-for-3 hitting.
Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) pitched the win for Boston College, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit. She improved to 9-3 overall.
Boston College is scheduled to play at Massachusetts in a single game Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m.. The team will return home April 19 when it hosts Connecticut.
