Softball Splits On First Day Of Easton Classic

Los Angeles, Calif. -- The Boston College softball team split a pair of contests on the first day of the Easton Classic at Easton Stadium on the campus of UCLA. The Eagles blanked Missouri, 3-0, before falling to No. 1 UCLA, 9-0. BC stands at 4-6 on the season.
In the first game of the day, Boston College pushed across all the runs it would need in the fourth inning. With one out, Lisa Field (Encinitas, Calif.) reached on an error. Kristin Allain (Worcester, Mass.) followed with a walk. Sara Kellner (Sarasota, Fla.) pinch-ran for Field and, with two outs, senior second baseman Jen Asbury (Livermore, Calif.) belted a three-run homer.
Kim Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) and Lisa Fischer (Coopersburg, Pa.) each went 2-for-4 on the afternoon while Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) picked up her second win on the mound.
In the second game, Boston College was run-ruled by the nation's top team. UCLA pushed across four runs in the first, three in the second, and two more in the fifth to secure a 9-0 victory over the Eagles. Hopkin collected the team's lone hit in the game while Michelle Daly (Concord, Mass.) took the loss on the mound.
Saturday, Boston College will face UCLA at 2:30 p.m. EST and then take on Missouri at 5:00 p.m. EST.
