Softball Shuts Out Drexel; Falls To Maryland

Athens, Ga. - The Boston College softball team split a pair of contests on the second day of the Georgia Round Robin Invitational at the Women's Athletic Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Eagles blanked Drexel, 6-0, before falling to Maryland, 3-1. BC stands at 3-5 on the season.
In the first game of the day, Boston College scored twice in its first at-bat, adding an insurance run in the second and third innings, plus two more in the sixth. The Eagle hitters touched up Drexel's pitching staff for nine hits on the afternoon.
Jacqui Goodchild (West Hills, Calif.) and Cara Blumfield (West Hills, Calif.) both collected two hits on the afternoon with Goodchild collecting a run batted in. Lisa Fischer (Coopersburg, Pa.) and Sara Kellner (Sarasota, Fla.) collected home runs in the victory, Kellner's accounting for the two runs in the sixth inning.
Kim Ryan (Bay Shore, N.Y.) collected her first win of the season, pitching a complete seven-inning game with 11 strikeouts and just two walks allowed.
Boston College committed three costly errors in the second game, allowing Maryland to score three unearned runs on the afternoon. Freshman Kim Hopkin (Dove Canyon, Calif.) knocked in the lone run for the Eagles with an RBI foul out in the last inning.
Tekae Malandris (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Michelle Daly (Carlisle, Mass.) shared pitching duties with Malandris taking the loss (1-3). She pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 11. Daly pitched two innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Boston College will face Drexel Sunday at 12 noon in the tournament consolation game.
