STORRS, Conn. - It took an extra session, but the University of Connecticut women's hockey team (10-16-4, 2-6-3 Hockey East) topped Boston College (11-14-3, 1-7-3 HE), 1-0, on Friday evening in Storrs, Conn.
After two periods of even skating, Connecticut poured on the pressure in the third stanza, out-shooting the Eagles, 16-2. Lisa Davis turned away all 35 UConn shots in regulation, stopping many from point-blank range.
The Huskies carried the momentum to the overtime period, getting the gamewinner on a Megan McLeod shot that found the back of the net, 2:56 after the regulation horn.
Davis made 36 saves in the BC net, while UConn goaltender Kaitlyn Shain stopped all 18 Boston College attempts.
The Eagles seek to avenge the loss and even their season record against the Huskies on Sunday, Feb. 16, at Kelley Rink. Face-off is slated for 7 p.m.
