CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The sixth-ranked men's hockey team's four game winning streak was halted by Providence, as it was defeated 4-1, Friday night at Kelley Rink. The win improves the Friars to 12-10-1 (6-7-1 HEA), while the Eagles fall to 14-6-3 (10-4-1).
Providence jumped to a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period before junior Tony Voce scored his 11th goal of the season at 16:37 of the first period. Voce received a feed from junior J.D. Forrest and buried the puck into the top right corner.
The Friars added a goal in the second period before sealing the win on an empty netter at 19:12 of the third period.
Senior Doug Wright tallied two of PC's four goals.
Freshman Bobby Goepfert made 24 saves for Providence while sophomore Matti Kaltiainen made 17 stops for the Eagles.
The two teams return to action Saturday, Jan. 25, when the Eagles travel to Providence for the second game of the home-and-home series. Face off is 7 p.m.
