CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team was shut out by the Princeton Tigers Friday, 1-0, on the soggy pitch at Newton Campus Field. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 4-4-1, while Princeton remains undefeated at 6-0-0.
Princeton sophomore Kristina Fontanez scored the match's lone goal, sliding a pass from Theresa Sherry into the Boston College goal 38:13 into the contest.
The Eagles applied all the pressure in the second half - out-shooting the Tigers 9-3 - but Princeton goalkeeper Jean Poster held her ground, making five saves in the frame. Poster's biggest save came on a penalty kick by sophomore Lindsey Fairweather with 2:25 remaining in the match. The kick was rewarded to the Eagles after sophomore Laina Ceddia was pulled down in the box while attempting to get her head on an airborne ball.
Senior captain Kate MacDonald and freshman Lindsey McArdle had strong games in the backfield for the Eagles, pitching-in to hold Princeton to five shots in the contest.
The Eagles' last home loss came on Oct. 21, 2001 against Rutgers - an undefeated streak of six home contests. Friday's loss is Boston College's first against a non-conference opponent this season.
The Eagles look to rebound Sunday, Sept. 29, when they face BIG EAST rival Providence at 2 p.m. at Newton Campus Field.
