CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team snapped a three-game skid in dramatic fashion Sunday, defeating Providence College, 1-0, in double overtime at Newton Campus Field. The win improves Boston College to 5-4-1 (1-3 BIG EAST) while Providence falls to 4-4-2 (0-3 BIG EAST).
Junior Sarah Rahko was the hero for the Eagles, finding the back of the net with only 4:23 remaining in the contest. The unassisted tally was a bullet from the top of the box that cruised beyond the reach of the diving Providence goalkeeper. Rahko's exhausted teammates rushed the field in celebration, as the Eagles collected their first overtime win of the season.
The Eagles out-played the Friars, unloading 19 shots to Providence's five. Providence netminder Caroline Haines had a busy day for the Friars, making nine saves in the match. Kate Taylor earned the shut out for Boston College, making one save.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday, Oct. 2, when they travel down Comm. Ave. to square-off with Boston University. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
