Miller, Yovankin Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior co-captain Lauren Miller (Timonium, Md.) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and freshman midfielder Jacklyn Yovankin (Medford, N.J.) earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending April 7, 2002. The duo led the Eagles to two wins this week. Miller scored eight goals and added 10 assists, while Yovankin collected eight ground balls, six caused turnovers and five draw controls on the week.
Miller, a preseason All-BIG EAST selection, continued her tremendous play last week. On April 2 against Sacred Heart, she netted four goals and added four assists in the 17-3 win over the Pioneers. She followed that up with a 10-point performance - on four goals and six assists - in a 16-15 overtime win over BIG EAST rival Virginia Tech, on April 8. She also contributed six ground balls and three draw controls in the two games. Miller leads the team with 49 points on 25 goals and 24 assists this season.
Yovankin led the Eagles defense to two strong performances last week. Against Sacred Heart, she picked up a career-high six ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers and three draw controls, helping the defense limit the Pioneers to just three goals and eight shots on the evening. She finished the week by picking up two ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls in the overtime win over Virginia Tech. For the season, Yovankin ranks first on the team in draw controls (22), second in ground balls (30) and third in caused turnovers (16).
Sharing the defensive player of the week honors with Yovankin is Lauren Gulotta (Annapolis, Md.) of Rutgers.
The Eagles return to action on Monday, April 8, 2002 against Holy Cross at Alumni Stadium. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
