Showing Our Metal
Up until this point in the season not much had gone as planned for the team. We could not seem to put a string of quality games together. We played well against our toughest opponents, yet we struggled and even lost to our weakest opponents namely Rhode Island, Duquesne and Manhattan. On Friday we came together as a team and voiced our opinions as we approached the beginning of a new season and our ultimate goal of the BIG EAST Championship. Well to say the least, we came out of the gates firing as we swept the perennial frontrunner and preseason No. 2 team in the conference, Rutgers.
Everybody outside of our team felt that Rutgers would take it to us, yet in the end we not only swept the No. 21 team in the country, our most dominate game came against the No. 1 college prospect in the country in Rutgers pitcher Bobby Brownlie. The preseason college player of the year in many syndicates got a taste of the level at which we can play the game. As the weekend becomes a memory, we as a team must not become overconfident and complacent with the way we played against Rutgers. As Easter break brings us up against two quality BIG EAST opponents in UConn and Pittsburgh, both of whom we will play (2) games against. This weekend in the BIG EAST will show our true metal as a team and how we can play off of such an emotional high.
