Albany, N.Y. - The Boston College men's lacrosse team lost their first official game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Albany, N.Y. John Cella, Sean Connelly, and Matthew Safaii each tallied one goal for the Eagles and Ted Cella added an assist. With the loss, Boston College falls to 0-1 on the season while Albany improves to 2-1.
BC struck first as sophomore John Cella got BC on the board less than three minutes into the game. However, BC's 1-0 lead would not last long as Albany went on to score twelve consecutive goals. About ten minutes into the third period, senior Sean Connelly ended Albany's run by sneaking one by Albany goalie Kevin Rae. With 11:42 left in the fourth period, BC added their final goal as Ted Cella found senior Matthew Saffai open in front of the net who put it past the goalie.
After BC's first goal, Albany's defense tightened up and allowed BC only 18 more shots in the game. As Albany's defense tightened, their offense caught fire and was too much for BC to contain. BC goalies James Karambay and Michael Tait were bombarded by 51 Albany shots. Karambay made a solid effort playing 44:05 and making 18 saves. Tait made four saves in five minutes.
The Eagle's will next take the field at Sacred Heart (Fairfield, Conn.) on Saturday, March 16. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
