Fairfield, Conn. - The Boston College men's lacrosse team dropped their second consecutive game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Fairfield, Conn. Seniors Matthew Safaii and Rory Smith led the Eagles with two goals apiece. Smith added two assists to lead all BC scorers. Sophomores Kevin Dunphy and Ian Frankoski added a goal each. With the loss, Boston College falls to 0-2 on the season while Sacred Heart improves to 2-2.
The Eagles found themselves in a hole early, and were outscored 4-0 in the first quarter. After a quick Sacred Heart goal at the beginning of the second quarter, Safaii put BC on the board making it 5-1 in favor of the Pioneers. That was as close as it would get as Sacred Heart went on to score four consecutive goals. With 2:10 left on the clock, Rory Smith ended this streak by scoring his first goal of the season. Sacred Heart added one more before the end of the quarter bringing the halftime score to 12-3. After the break, the Eagle's came scoring early as Matthew Safaii tallied his second goal of the game. However, the Pioneers countered with four goals of their own. The Eagles played tight with Sacred Heart in the fourth quarter scoring the first two goals, compliments of Rory Smith and Ian Frankoski, and ended the quarter even in scoring with their opponents at 2-2.
The Eagle's will next take the field when they host Marist College at Bentley College (Waltham, MA) on Saturday, March 23. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
