We're off and running! All of the time and effort we put into training for the season was well worth it. Our trip to Philadelphia was a huge success, beating both La Salle and Villanova. We accomplished our goals, played to win, and returned to Boston fired up for the rest of our season.
Thursday's game against La Salle was by far the best start to a season we've had in the past four years. We came out with energy and intensity, dominating the majority of the first half. The defense shut down La Salle's key players, the midfield swiftly moved the ball down the field, and the attack dictated the pace of the game. In the second half, the defense thwarted a brief La Salle run, and the offense was able to remain in control to finish with a decisive 16-7 win. Looking back, the most exciting aspect of the game was that everyone on the field contributed. We dominated all over and showed just how versatile our team really is.
Saturday's game against Villanova proved to be much more challenging. We came out flat and appeared to lack the desire to win. At the half, we were only up by one and were frustrated with our sloppy play. The second half was an entirely different story. We played with intensity and heart, determined to do better and go harder. We came out strong and on fire, quickly increasing our lead. We proved that we can turn a game around, holding Villanova to only one second half goal, while scoring eight of our own. We saw firsthand what exactly our team is capable of when we hold the desire and commitment to win.
Although La Salle and Villanova were not two of our biggest games this season, they were vitally important in establishing and building our confidence. In only the second week of our season, we face two of our biggest rivals, Harvard and Notre Dame. We can now go into this week of competition with not only confidence, but also momentum. Hopefully, this week will prove to be as successful as last!
