Softball Drops Pair At Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Boston College softball team dropped a pair of contets at Seton Hall on Sunday. The Pirates needed 10 innings to down the Eagles 4-3 in the first game and then took the second game 5-3.
In the opener, Seton Hall jumped on the scoreboard first, posting two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Eagles gained one back in the top of the second frame as Cara Blumfield crossed home plate after a error off a Lisa Fischer single.
BC took a 3-2 lead two innings later. The Pirates loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter then Fischer singled in Summer Jarratt to tie the score. With two outs and three on base, SHU walked a third Eagle to plate another runner as Jen Asbury crossed home.
In the bottom of the seventh, BC committed two errors and tossed two wild pitches that brought home a Pirate to tie the score. In the 10th, SHU brought home a runner as Rachel Kilbert singled home Kerry Kirk for the win.
After Brooke Shull started, Tekae Malandris came it to pitch the final 6.2 innings. She struck out 11, while allowing two runs (one earned).
In the nightcap, SHU staked a 1-0 lead after one, but the Eagles again came back to take the lead. In the second inning, Blumfield homered to even the score, then Malandris singled in Alison Erbig who singled and stole second.
BC added another run in the top of the fourth as Asbury homered in the first at-bat of the frame. Seton Hall regained the advantage in the bottom of the innings, posting three runs. The Pirates added another run in the next inning to seal the 5-3 win.
Kimberly Ryan started and pitched 4.2 innings, striking out three. Malandris closed the game's final 1.2 innings, striking out two and allowing one hit.
BC fell to 18-17 overall and 3-7 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles will next face Brown in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 11 at Shea Field beginning at 3 p.m.
