Women's Lacrosse Wins First BIG EAST Contest

Storrs, Conn. - The Boston College women's lacrosse team won their first league game in the inaugural BIG EAST Conference with a 7-6 victory over Connecticut today in Storrs, Conn. Leading the Eagles with four goals was Emily Ryan.
Boston College took an initial 1-0 lead just one minute into the game as Ryan scored the first of her four goals at the 29:00 mark. The Huskies countered with three to jump out to a 3-1 lead. Bonnie Wehinger started the run with a tally from a free position shot at 21:56. Kristen Williams and Kariane Lauri scored a goal apiece in the following five minutes. BC answered with two goals of its own from Rachel Bausch and Ryan to knot the game, 3-3, at intermission.
Boston College opened the second half with four-straight goals to continue a six-goal run, taking a lead it would not relinquish. Ryan scored two in the span as Tara Morley and Rachel Tella also contributed one goal apiece. The Huskies staged a furious comeback in the final seven minutes of the contest behind Pam Lowie's three goals but were able to hold off the Huskies for the victory.
In goal for the Eagles, Rachel Zeller stopped 11 attempts and for UConn April Pollack made nine saves.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-7 and 1-4 in the BIG EAST. While the Huskies fall to 1-7 and 0-3 in the league.
The Eagles will next travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on the Orangewomen on Sat., Apr. 14. The game is schedule to begin at noon in the Carrier Dome.
