Baseball Falls to West Virginia

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.- Boston College (9-10, 0-5) dropped both ends of a doubleheader (8-0 and 8-7) to BIG EAST foe, West Virginia, Friday March 23 in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers totaled 12 hits in game one and WVU starter Shane Rhodes struck out eight batters and allowed only four hits in 7.0 innings. Jed Rogers issued a career-high seven strikeouts on the way to his second loss of the season.
In game two, Eric Grimm scored on a tough throwing error to first base by Ryan Leahy that may have completed a game-ending double play.
Down 7-4, Billy Biggs inspired the Mountaineers to the comeback, striking out eight in four innings of relief for the win. Biggs struck out the BC side in the top of the eighth then teammate Dallas Crews slammed a three-run homer in the bottom half of the frame to knot the the game at seven. BC jumped out to the 7-4 lead on five runs in the fifth. Brian Macchi hit a two-run homerun, and Brian Durkin had a two-run double.
Mark Sullivan took the loss to drop to 1-2.
BC faces Georgetown Sunday March 25 at Shirley Povich Field in Bethesda, Md. Game time is noon.
