Softball Trips In Louisiana, Drops Pair to Lady Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Boston College softball team dropped three games to Louisiana-Lafayette in the 15th annual Louisiana Classics. The team earlier took two from Centenary on Sarturday, 9-0 and 11-0.
BC faced the Lady Cajuns on Saturday night, falling 6-3. Summer Jarratt went 2-for-4 and drove in one run. Jennifer Perrotta went 2-for-3 and had an RBI and a run scored. Lisa Fischer and Alison Erbig both went 1-for-4. Jacqui Goodchild was 1-for-3 at bat. Tekae Malandris pitched seven innings and struck out nine, before allowing four runs in the top of the seventh, while the Eagles were up 3-1.
In the first game of the double-header on Sunday, BC dropped a 7-4 contest. Kimberly Ryan started and allowed only two earned runs, but the Eagles could only manage five hits while Cajun pitcher Melissa Coronado struck out six. Erbig, Perrotta and Jennifer Asbury each went 1-for-3, while Cara Blumfield finished 1-for-2.
In the second game, Coronado pitched again, allowing just three hits. Jarratt, Blumfield and Erbig each picked up a hit in the game. The teams were scoreless until the seventh inning when Louisiana-Lafayette exploded for all 11 of their runs.
BC now stands at 5-6 overall and will next participate in the Aztec Invitational, March 2-3, in San Diego, Calif. The team will take on Furman and San Diego State twice each.
