Eagles Fall To No. 6 Virginia Tech, 34-20

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Grant Noel passed for 225 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score as No. 6 Virginia Tech beat Boston College 34-20 on Saturday night.
Noel connected with Andre Davis for TD strikes of 37 and 34 yards, and finished 16-of-28.
Virginia Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big East) smothered Boston College (4-2, 2-1) from the opening kickoff to extended its home winning streak to 16 games.
William Green was held to 74 yards rushing on 21 carries, ending his season-long streak of rushing for at least 100 yards. The Eagles failed to move the ball into Virginia Tech territory until the final drive of the first half.
The Hokies forced three fumbles and scored a defensive touchdown in their fourth straight game when rover Kevin McCadam scooped up a tipped pitch in the first quarter and ran 9 yards.
Keith Burnell had 111 yards, repeatedly spinning and charging up the middle for his second straight game with more than 100 rushing yards. Kevin Jones added 60 yards on the ground.
Davis caught six passes for 112 yards, catching a screen pass from Noel and shaking away from a defender in the third quarter for one of his two touchdowns.
Virginia Tech jumped to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter as its defense held Boston College to minus 1 yards and no first downs. The Eagles failed to make it past their own 23 in the period.
Davis scored the Hokies' first TD, snatching a 37-yard floater over a defender in the right corner of the end zone.
Noel scrambled and threw a 29 yard pass to a wide-open Shawn Whitten, and ran 1 yard for a touchdown four plays later.
Two minutes later, Jim Davis tipped a pitch by St. Pierre on the Eagles 11 and McCadam ran the ball in to make it 21-0.
Carter Warley kicked field goals of 19 and 39 yards. The final field goal came in the third quarter after Brian Welch forced Green to fumble inside the Eagles 20.
Brian St. Pierre was 13-for-26 for 180 yards, including 35- and 28-yard passes to Ryan Read. He was sacked twice by David Pugh.
The Eagles blitzed almost every down, sacking Noel twice. Antonio Garay intercepted a wobbly pass from Noel as he scrambled out of the pocket in the fourth quarter. Two plays later, Jamal Burke caught a 31-yard touchdown pass from St. Pierre.
Boston College came late in the game, scoring three straight touchdowns.
