BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's cross country team turned in a sixth-place finish, out of 42 teams, at the 2001 New England Championships on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park. The Eagles finished with 237 total points, which was only 220 points behind team-winner Providence College, who finished with 17 points.
Senior Colin Wolfe turned in the best performance of the day for Boston College. Wolfe finished in 17th place, with a time of 25:12. Wolfe's finish for the Eagles was the third consecutive race this season he has led Boston College.
Sophomore Byron Gartrell, senior Nathan Buttrick and junior Shawn Wallace all turned in impressive performances for the Eagles. Gartrell was the second highest finished for BC as he placed 46th, finishing with a time of 25:52.
Buttrick and Wallace did not finish far behind Gartrell as they finished 53rd and 54th, respectively, in the race. Buttrick and Wallace both turned in the exact same time of 26:02, but Buttrick went across the finish line first.
Other Eagles participating in the race were junior Brian Mahoney (75th), senior Steve Lester (84th) and junior Matthew Kootman (174th).
