Boston College Game Quotes
Tom O'Brien, Head Coach
Overall
"We are disappointed with the loss, we missed too many tackles on defense, we had opportunities
to make plays and didn't make them. Offensively I don t think we protected the quarterback well
enough on the pass, I think we rushed the ball well enoug
h except for that time when we got it down there after the turnover in the third quarter and couldn't
knock it in."
"They have some talent that's a good football team, but I don t think our kids backed down at all. We played hard. That's the positive right now that I can see after this game."
On the Virginia Tech punt return for a touchdown
"We gave up a punt return for a touchdown early. I didn't think we would do that, we spent a lot of
time in our punt protection against these guys. We did a good job snapping the ball and getting it
off."
Tim Hasselbeck
"We lost. It stinks. It's not really any fun to lose. A lot of guys gave it their best shot today and it
wasn't good enough."
"The thing that we wanted to do when we came into this game was believe that we could win. I think that guys did. There were times that we were down, and they were scoring. It looked like you were behind. It looked like they had the momentum. I thought that guys really stayed in there and fought. We were really believing. In the fourth quarter we were 14 points away and people believed."
On Virginia Tech Quarterback Michael Vick
"He never gave up. He was always right back at it. He always got up."
Virginia Tech Post Game Quotes
Frank Beamer, head coach
On Boston College
That was a heck of a BIG EAST football game. I compliment Tom O Brien his program keeps
getting better and better. Offensively, they have some big ol' guys up front, and they have some
people that I thought really played well. Defensively they re
ally got after us.
On quarterback Michael Vick
Our No. 7 made some plays. He makes two plays when he s in the game: the one we call and
the one he ends up turning it into. He turned a couple into great plays. s a competitor the bigger
the game is, the more he likes it.
On Vick's ability of improvisation
I think that what Mike will tell you is that he needs to do whatever is called for at the time.
Sometime when they re blitzing and it s one-on-one you need to get away and make the throw or
get the sight-adjust done, and we missed a couple of those
tonight. I think we need for him to perform within what the play calls for and just let it happen as it
will. If he needs to run, let him run. I think that s the way we need to approach it ll take whatever
s there, and he s pretty good about do
ing it.
On his team's performance
I just told our football team and this is not in any way about BC but we need to play better. We
need to take better care of the football. We had a couple of penalties that hurt. We had people
out of position. We ve got to be a better football t
eam. We re happy as heck to come in here and win because it s a good program s a good team,
and we feel fortunate to win. I think that it s quite obvious, though, that we ve got a lot of work to
do.
Michael Vick, quarterback
On BC's defensive performance
A couple of times I had a man open downfield on man-to-man coverage, but I couldn t get free to
make the throw, but that makes me elevate my game and take it to another level and use the
second element of my game running the football. Hopefully, ne
xt week I ll pick up my passing game. ve seen a lot of blitzes over the previous two weeks, but
every time a team blitzes, we hurt them. Hopefully it will stop, but if it doesn ll just keep doing
what we ve been doing. I guess that s how a lot of teams are going to play me, just b
litz me and bring a lot of pressure.
On the mild injury to his knee
It was my left knee. I took a helmet to it when I hit the ground. First I thought it was worse than
that, but I started to feel better the more and more I walked around. Insert FrameI
