Baseball Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Eric Olson (Oakland, Calif.) went 3-for-5 with a home run to help Boston College defeat Valparaiso 10-2 Tuesday for the second-straight day in Fort Myers, Fla. BC has won four consecutive games to improve to 6-2 overall. The Eagles play Mount St. Mary's College in Homestead, Fla. Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
Pitcher Erik Olson (Reading, Mass.) permitted one earned run on one hit while striking out six in five innings of work for his first win of the season on the mound for the Eagles. In relief of Olson, Jaime Quiros (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) gave up two hits and struck out four in 2.1 innings.
Five Eagle batters had two hits to help BC to a 17-3 hitting advantage over the Crusaders. Mike Quirk (Paxton, Mass.)'s first-inning triple was one of his two hits. Steve Langone (Reading, Mass.), Neal McCarthy (Warwick, R.I.) and Mike Gambino (Garrison, N.Y.) also gave two-hit performances. Sophomore catcher Jeff Mackor (Salem, N.H.) doubled twice for the Eagles.
In the first inning, Langone singled in Quirk then Jarett Mendoza's (North Dighton, Mass.) double drove home Langone to give BC a 2-0 advantage after one. The Eagles scored at least one run in six of nine innings. Although, defense down the stretch made the difference. The Eagles pulled off an unorthodox 2-6-2 triple play. After Quiros struck out Uttech for the first out, Mackor threw out Ogoard at second for the next out. Hubbard finished the triple play by getting Nardiello at the plate.
