Easton, Mass. - - Freshman pitcher Matt Lederhos (Westwood, Mass.) threw five solid innings, allowing just one run in his first collegiate start to lead Boston College (10-4) past Stonehill College 9-4 Wednesday in Easton.
Lederhos threw 60 pitches in five innings. Forty-one of those pitches were strikes. The freshman ace scattered two hits, walked two and struck out two.
Sophomore catcher Jeff Mackor (Salem, N.H.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double to top all Eagle batters. Stonehill's Erik Todd eventually scored after advancing on a single, fielder's choice and error to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Kealty tied it up for the Eagles with a sacrifice fly to drive in Mendoza in the second inning.
BC broke the game open with two outs in the third inning when Neal McCarthy (Warwick, R.I.), who extended his hitting streak to four games, hit a three-run, double. The Eagles added two more runs in that inning, making the score 7-1.
The Chieftains rallied in the bottom of the ninth, knocking in a couple runs to close the gap at 9-4.
