BOCA RATON, Fla. - Boston College capped its 10-game spring training trip with a 16-0 victory over Monmouth and 7-1 win against Hofstra on Saturday (March 11). The 9-4 Eagles welcome Stonehill Wednesday (March 15) for the first game of the 2000 baseball season, hosted at the Heights. Game time is 3 p.m.
Jeff Mackor (Salem, N.H.) hit 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored to lead all Eagles against Monmouth Saturday morning. Also collecting a pair of BC hits was Neal McCarthy (Warwick, R.I.), who went 2-for-2 at the plate. Mike Quirk (Paxton, Mass.) went 2-for-5 on the day.
Erik Olson (Reading, Mass.) allowed three hits in five innings with a couple strikeouts. Brendan Nolan (Swampscott, Mass.) contributed three innings with two strikeouts and two hits.
The Eagles managed 11 runs in the seventh inning to put away the victory.
Both Chris Rosado (Stamford, Conn.) and Mike Hubbard (Braintree, Mass.) had two hits against Hofstra Saturday afternoon. Mike Quirk?s sole hit produced two runs.
Andy Sullivan (Winchester, Mass.), now 3-0 on the season, fanned five batters with no free passes in eight innings. Junior Mike Stuart (Canton, Mass.) struck out the side in his only inning of action.
After giving up one run in the second inning, BC scored three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the eighth and ninth innings.
