Maggie Guiney Leads Team To NCAA Regional Victory

Bronx, N.Y. - The Boston College women's cross country team ran to victory at the 2000 Northeast Regional Cross Country meet held today at Van Courtland Park in Bronx, N.Y. With four runners placing in the top ten, the sixth nationally ranked Eagles competed among 36 teams.
Winning the 5000-meter race with a time of 20:26.1, sophomore Maggie Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.) took her first, first place finish of the season Finishing in fourth place for the Eagles was senior captain Katie Ryan (Elmira, N.Y.) with a time of 20:43.4. Less than seven seconds later, sophomore Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.) finished in seventh place with 20:50.3. The fourth Eagle in the top ten finishers of the 229 participant race, was sophomore Cate Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.) with 20:55.8.
Other Boston College participants were sophomore Julie Spolodoro (Duxbury, Mass.) in 26th, junior Sharon Van Tuyl (Portage, Mich.) in 37th and freshman Jennifer Kramer (Loudonville, N.Y.) in 42nd.
Also at the Van Courtland Park today, the men's cross country team took eighth place in their NCAA qualifying meet.
The Eagle's will wrap up there season when they travel to Ames, Iowa to participate in the NCAA Championship race, at host school Iowa State, on Monday, November 20, 2000.
