Softball Picked to Win Third Straight BIG EAST Title.

Chestnut Hill, Mass.-In a vote by the leagues coaches, the Boston College Eagles are the preseason favorites to win the 1999 BIG EAST title. The Eagles received five first-place votes, two ahead of Notre Dames three votes.
Boston College has had four members of its roster named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, led by Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Mary Dietz(San Manuel, Ariz.). Dietz, last year set the BIG EAST single-season record for strikeouts with 101 in 13 conference games. She was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
The other members of the Eagles that were selected to the 1999 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team are juniors Chris Vicari(Totowa, NJ) and Lauren Fischetti(Brightwaters, NY) along with sophomore Jennifer Perrotta(Carlstadt, NJ).
Last season Vicari was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team and was named BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player. She batted .310 and led the league in home runs with 11.
Lauren Fischetti, in 29 appearances last season, went 16-5 with a 1.33 ERA. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Jennifer Perrotta, last years BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and member of the All-BIG EAST Second Team will look to lead the team in hitting once again. Perrotta led the team in hitting, batting .321 with 15 extra-base hits.
The Eagles will open their season in Georgia on February 26 at the National Fastball Coaches Association Tournament. They will take on No. 1 Fresno State.
