BOSTON (AP) - Mike Cloud and quarterback Scott Mutryn each ran for two touchdowns and Boston College rolled to a 41-14 win over Rutgers in the Big East opener for the schools Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (2-0 overall, 1-0 Big East), coming off a 41-31 upset of Georgia Tech last week, have won their first two games for the first time since 1992.
Cloud, who gained 200 yards and scored two TDs in the opener, carried 27 times for 156 yards.
The Scarlet Knights (1-1, 0-1), who struggled to a 7-6 victory over Division I-AA Richmond last week, dropped their 12th straight road game.
The Scarlet Knights went ahead on the game's fourth play when Mike McMahon hit Bill Powell on a 56-yard TD pass. Boston College tied the game on Cloud's 2-yard run, capping a nine-play, 69-yard drive midway through the first quarter.
The Eagles took a 10-7 lead with 63 seconds to play in the opening quarter on John Matich's 23-yard field goal at the end of a 10-play, 58-yard march.
Mutryn's 2-yard run closed an 11-play, 80-yard drive and made it 17-7 midway into the second quarter.
Matich's 33-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining gave the Eagles a 20-7 lead at the half.
Rutgers closed to 20-14 when Mutryn's pass bounced off Quinton Lee's hands to cornerback Reggie Stephens, who returned it 28 yards for a score.
Cloud carried five times in Boston College's seven-play drive to a 27-14 lead, rushing four times for 55 yards and catching a pass for 18 yards. His 6-yard run capped the 80-yard drive with 41 seconds left in the quarter.
Mutryn's 21-yard run and Lee's 4-yarder padded the margin.
