CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College head football coach Tom OBrien has named Bob Shoop defensive secondary coach and Jason Swepson running backs coach.
Shoop, a four-year letterwinner and 1988 graduate of Yale University, comes to BC after a year as secondary coach at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Previously, he was the defensive coordinator at Villanova University (1997) and at Yale (1994-96), and served as secondary coach at Northeastern University (1991-94). He served as a graduate assistant on the University of Virginia staff that included OBrien (1990-91). He replaces Jerry Rosburg, who resigned to accept a position at Notre Dame.
"This is an outstanding opportunity," Shoop says. "I am excited about the direction BC Athletics is headed under (Athletics Director) Gene DeFilippo and Tom OBrien. Our objective will be to go out and compete for a BIG EAST championship and to get back to a bowl game."
Swepson is a 1992 BC graduate and a four-year BC football letterwinner. He was running backs and tight ends coach at Northeastern University (1997-98), offensive coordinator at Holy Cross (1996), wide receivers coach at Boston University (1994-95), tight ends/tackles coach at Rhode Island (1993), and running backs coach at Bates College (1992). He had recently been named running backs coach at the University of Connecticut.
"I am excited to come home," Swepson says. "I cant wait to get started. BC has a young, talented group of players and I am pleased to be a part of the program."
