CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Home games with BIG EAST rivals Pittsburgh, Miami and West Virginia and a matchup with Northeastern highlight the 1999 Boston College football schedule, released today by Athletics Director Gene DeFilippo.
The Eagles will open the 1999 football season on Saturday, Sept. 4, when the Baylor Bears come to Chestnut Hill for the first time since 1922. After an open date, BC will play road games at Navy and Rutgers before returning home for the Oct. 2 game with Northeastern. Following a road game at Notre Dame, the Eagles conclude the season with a BIG EAST matchup at Virginia Tech on Friday, Nov. 26, the day after Thanksgiving.
"We think this schedule will be challenging for our young team and attractive to our fans," DeFilippo says. "It meets our goal of scheduling teams of both national and regional interest. Certainly the games with Baylor, Notre Dame, Miami and our other BIG EAST rivals are of national interest, and we feel strongly that playing Northeastern will be extremely positive for football in Boston and all of New England."
DeFilippo also announced that negotiations are currently underway to solidify a competitive non-conference schedule for the Eagles throughout the next decade. In addition to Notre Dame, future BC non-conference opponents include Army (2000-01), Navy (2000-01-02-03-04), Louisville (2000), Stanford (2001-02), Wake Forest (2003-04), Penn State (2003-04) and 1998 National Champion Tennessee (2006-07).
