WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Troy Bell scored 21 points, 12 in the second half, as Boston College defeated Holy Cross 50-43 Tuesday in the Centrum.
Boston College (4-2), which beat Holy Cross for the ninth straight year, took a 48-35 lead on Bell's putback with less than two minutes to play. But Holy Cross (2-4) stormed back, scoring eight straight points, with Ryan Serravalle's 3-pointer with 31.3 seconds to play cutting the Crusaders' deficit to 48-43.
Bell, a freshman who's averaging 20.5 points per game, finally sealed the victory with a pair of free throws with 9.5 seconds to play.
Serravalle's 16 points led the Crusaders. Juan Pegues tossed in 11 points for Holy Cross.
Xavier Singletary scored 10 points for Boston College. Bell was 7-of-18 from the field, including 3-for-8 from 3-point range.
BC, which led 21-18 at the half, hit just 34 percent of its shots from the field (18-of-53) and didn't fare much better from the free-throw line, hitting 54 percent (6-of-11).
Holy Cross had shooting problems of its own, however. The Crusaders were 17-of-45 from the field, including 6-of-21 from 3-point range for 37 percent.
The teams combined to commit 41 turnovers. Holy Cross led the way with 25, with Josh Sankes committing 9.
The win snapped the Eagles' 15-game road losing streak. The last time Boston College had won on the road was Jan. 24, 1998 (64-61) at Seton Hall.
